Patient Information

What to expect

We understand that seeing a cardiologist can feel daunting. This page explains how referrals and appointments work, what to expect, and how to get in touch if you have questions.

Referrals & Appointments

The referral process

All new patients require a GP referral. This helps our cardiologists understand your medical history, current symptoms, and medications, and ensures you receive the most appropriate care.

Visit your GP
Discuss your symptoms or concerns with your general practitioner.

Your GP sends a referral
Referrals are submitted electronically via a specialist referral system.

Referral review
One of our cardiologists reviews your referral to determine the most appropriate next steps.

Appointment booking
Our team will contact you to arrange an appointment once the referral has been reviewed.

Can I self-refer?

We’re unable to accept self-referrals.However, you’re very welcome to contact us with questions or to discuss the referral process. Many patients reach out to us first - we’re happy to guide you on what to do next.

I’ve already been in hospital — do I still need a GP referral?

If you’ve recently been admitted to hospital and have a discharge summary, this may be accepted as a referral in some cases. Our team can advise you if this applies to you.

What to bring with you

  • Any referral or appointment letters

  • A list of current medications

Relevant test results or discharge summaries (if you have them)
Your insurance details (if applicable)

You’re very welcome to bring a support person with you.

Bringing a support person
