Dr Ari Kannivelu

Ari is a specialist paediatrician with expertise in cardiology, trained in UK and has been employed in Waikato Hospital, Hamilton since September 2017.
Following his undergraduation from Madras Medical College, India (2000), he undertook his specialist training in paediatrics, neonates and paediatric cardiology in UK (CCT 2009). He has had 2 years of training in tertiary paediatric cardiology centres in Birmingham and Leicester (UK). He has published his research work on effects of hyperventilation in children investigated for Long QT syndrome. Ari had been a consultant paediatrician with expertise in cardiology in Shrewsbury, UK between 2009 and 2017, before moving to NZ.
He investigates children for congenital and acquired heart diseases (including assessment of heart murmur and cyanosis), provides family screening for inherited heart diseases and offers investigations for general paediatric problems where a cardiac diagnosis may be suspected. He is well experienced in echocardiography, 12 lead ECG, ambulatory ECG and exercise tolerance test in children.
